During this 12-hour private guided tour of Tuscany, you will have the opportunity to discover one of the most charming region of Tuscany: Val d'Orcia and its gentle, cultivated hills / picturesque towns and villages such as Pienza, Montepulciano or Montacilno.
The driver-guide will pick you up at your hotel (or apartment) to drive you first to the hilltop town of Montepulciano, known for its Vino di Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano wine (2- to 2.5-hour ride). With your professional guide, you will explore the village and see the Florentine-style clock tower, the Etruscan city walls, medieval wine cellars and the interestingly unfinished Duomo. You’ll also be able, if you'd like, to stop in an award-winning vineyard to sample some of the best Tuscany wines and visit the wine cellars.
After this amazing visit, our driver-guide will bring you to Pienza (around 20 min drive) that you will discover on foot before having lunch in one of the local restaurants. Pienza, whose layout was designed by Pope Pius II in the 14th century, is called the "perfect Renaissance Town" and the "touchstone of Renaissance urbanism". Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, Pienza is located in the heart of the Val d'Orcia, one of the most beautiful subregions of Tuscany, famous for its Pecorino cheese and its Tuscan delicacies like wild boar.
Next your driver-guide will bring you to the charming medieval village of Bagno Vignoni, located on a hill surrounded by the valley Orcia river and famous also for its thermal waters used since Roman times - the village is built around its central "piazza of water", a huge pool of thermal water.
Then you'll visit the gorgeous Sant' Antimo Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery near Montacilno, where the stone walls ring with the sound of Gregorian chants, before admiring the views over the town's vineyards. If you'd like, we can also include an extra stop here as the Montalcino area is famous for its rich Brunello di Montepulciano wine and you might like a private wine tasting.
We will then drive you back to Rome and drop you off at your hotel or apartment.
Our standard pick-up/drop-off for this tour is within Central Rome limits.
